As we always say, the year’s gone flying by. It’s that time of the year when we take stock of how things went by and what we can do to improve the next year. A good overall goal that I’ve been working on is to become an awesome storyteller in 2016. There are a ton of things one can do, but I am listing down my top 25 new year resolutions to remind me and stay connected with my goal. 25 New Year Resolutions To Help You Become an Awesome Storyteller in 2016
1- I will stop using the semicolon. Short sentences win.
2- I will avoid using SMS/ chat lingo even for daily usage. There’s no room for LOL in real writing.
3- I will read more books of diverse genres this year. YES!
4- I will take take care of my diet and lead a healthy life. Our health inspires our writing.
5- I will exercise everyday even while obsessing over my passion. The best ideas need nourishing.
6- I will just write instead of planning to write.
7- I will use a computer that is not connected to the internet while typing. (the toughest goal ever 😀)
8- I will prepare a basic plot outline at the start.
9- I will set a target of words to write everyday and will stick to it.
10- I will divide the long pieces into sub sections to make the process more sorted.
11- I will write the first draft as soon as possible, without waiting for the best idea to turn up.
12- I will find a reliable friend or mentor who can give honest feedback to read the first draft.
13- I will not get enraged if I receive negative feedback.
14- I will work on the feedback I receive to improve my writing.
15- I will not allow the criticism to discourage me.
16- I will keep the smartphone at bay or on mute while writing.
17- I will find that time of the day/night when my writing flows the best.
18- I will utilize my high productivity writing time to the fullest and drop everything else.
19- I will find a comfortable spot to write.
20- I will try different locations when I feel the writer’s block is hitting me.
21- I will interact with people more often.
22- I will try to meet people with different interests.
23- I will make quick notes and save the ideas as soon as they strike me.
24- I will find a way to save and sort those scattered notes to access later.
25- Finally, while following these resolutions, I will always leave scope for improvisation.
